For over forty years visitors have made the pilgrimage westward from Sunset Beach to a mailbox nestled along the edge of the sand dunes of Bird Island. Inside are messages inscribed in journals that are left for the mysterious Kindred Spirit. The mailbox and benches have become a sacred place for many – a place to reflect on the past, contemplate the present, and hope for the future. All who visit the Kindred Spirit have a special relationship with her – one that evolves and endears year after year.
